NOISE-CON 2025 Short Courses: Expand Your Acoustical Knowledge

NOISE-CON 2025 is offering a range of short courses designed to enhance your expertise in acoustics, noise control, and signal processing. These courses will take place on Sunday, June 8, 2025, providing attendees with the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and certifications before the main conference.

Registration for the courses opens in January alongside conference registration. You do not need to register for the conference to attend the short courses. Certificates of completion will be provided after the course. To register, visit https://noisecon2025.org/

Short Courses Available

  • INCE Fundamentals Prep Course & Exam
This course, led by Andy Carballeira from ACENTECH, will take place from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM ET, with the exam following from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM ET. The course fee is $100 with NOISE-CON 2025 registration or $200 without. Participants will receive a review session before taking the INCE Fundamentals Exam, which can be completed in-person or online. Those interested in taking the exam without the course can request access by emailing ibo@inceusa.org.

  • New! Signal Processing
Stephen A. Hambric of Hambric Acoustics will teach this half-day course from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM ET. The cost is $400 per student. Participants will explore frequency-dependent power spectra, the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), and essential processing parameters. The course includes hands-on experience using Audacity and an online signal processing demonstrator to analyze sound and vibration data.

  • Acoustical Enclosures
David Herrin from the University of Kentucky will lead this full-day course from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET. The cost is $800 per student, including lunch and coffee/tea. The course will cover the theory and practical applications of acoustical enclosures, including materials, ventilation treatments, leakage control, simulation, and design validation.

  • Active Noise Control
Dr. Yangfan Liu of Purdue University will present this session from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM ET at a cost of $400 per student. The course will provide an overview of active noise and vibration control, from historical developments to modern advancements in AI-driven sound management. Participants will learn about fundamental concepts, algorithms, and real-world applications of this technology.

  • Overview of Acoustic and Vibration Simulation Methods
This full-day course runs from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET and costs $800 per student, including morning coffee and lunch. Instructors Dr. Rabah Hadjit and Dr. Satya Deshpande from ESI Group will introduce participants to numerical simulation methods in acoustics and vibration design. The course will cover Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA), the Boundary Element Method (BEM), Ray Tracing, and hybrid modeling techniques, focusing on their applications in automotive and industrial design.
