NOISE-CON 2025 – Let’s Get Quiet in Vermont

by Ken Kaliski, NOISE-CON Committee Chair

Why has NOISE-CON, the premier U.S. noise control engineering conference, never been held in a quiet location? Is there no scenic, relaxing (yet fun), pastoral, quiet space perfect for engaging noise-control professionals?

There is!

This year’s NOISE-CON 2025 will be held on June 9 – 11 at the beautiful Spruce Peak Hotel in Stowe, Vermont, the heart of Green Mountains. This four-diamond resort (yes, resort!) hosts 300 rooms at a price competitive with the big cities. It’s large outdoor heated pool, golf course, spa, fitness center, and miles of hiking adjacent to Vermont’s highest peak, Mount Mansfield, make it a perfect place for attendees and their families to learn, network, and soak up the quiet.

As always, NOISE-CON 2025 includes a full technical program and an exhibition with vendors from throughout the noise control engineering and acoustic industry. Keynote speaker Karen Trevino, head of the U.S. National Park Service’s Natural Sounds and Night Skies program, will highlight the importance of natural sounds preservation. Our Wednesday plenary is a panel discussing the future of noise control and noise control engineering.

NOISE-CON 2025 also features these innovations:

  • A Sunday Student Symposium provides students and early-career professionals an opportunity to hear from four industry veterans about their roles. Designed to inspire, the Sunday Student Symposium provides important information about the kinds of projects and work they’ll encounter in the workplace. Presentations will be followed by a networking event for attendees, presenters, and sponsors. This is in addition to our other student activities, such as the student and classic paper competitions and discounted registration.
  • A Young Professionals presentation-only session allows attendees who are 30 years old or younger a chance to present at a national conference without the added pressure of writing a paper. Each presenter will get a 10-minute block to present their findings and answer questions.
  • Tuesday Choose Day activities replace the usual Tuesday morning plenary session. Attendees select from a menu of activities – some related to noise control engineering and some…not so much. Activities we are working on include:
  • Soundscape walk at the base of Mount Mansfield
  • Pickleball noise demonstration
  • Fun run
  • Charity golf tournament at the Resort’s Mountain Course
  • Ultimate Frisbee tournament

The final details are still being worked out – stay tuned for announcements with updated information prior to the conference.

  • Tuesday evening features a sponsored banquet topped off with a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream truck, activities for kids, and grown-up activities into the evening.
  • The Technical Tour is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, after the closing ceremony, giving everyone the opportunity to attend. We’ll bus to Burlington, VT to visit Beta Technologies, an innovator in electric airplane manufacturing. After a tour of the Beta Technologies factory, we’ll watch, and listen to, a test flight to experience how quiet air travel might become.
  • And finally, Family Activities abound at the Spruce Peak Hotel and Stowe, VT. You and your guests can enjoy mountain biking, hiking, the Ben & Jerry’s factory tour, a visit to Cold Hollow Cider, shopping in downtown Stowe and Burlington, a massage in the spa, or a day of relaxation by the resort’s outdoor, four-season, heated pool.

The abstract submission portal is open now through January 22.

We look forward to seeing you in Vermont! Let’s get QUIET!
